The New Version Of Eve And The Apple
This tale has been adapted from the original for readability:
At first there were no people in the world. God said he would make a human being like himself, and so he made a man and a woman. He made them a garden too, and filled it with everything they needed to eat. But there was one tree whose fruit he told them not to touch.
Then Satan sent a snake to tempt them. The snake came up to them as if it were a person and said, “God is lying to you. You will not die. Go on, eat the fruit.”
So the woman picked the fruit and ate it. After that she went to the man and said, “It’s sweet, come and eat it.” The man came, picked the fruit, and ate it too.
In the evening God came looking for them, and they hid beneath a tree. God called out, but they did not answer. He found them and said, “Did you eat the fruit I told you not to eat?”
They said, “Yes. Someone came and told us to eat it.”
So God punished them. He said that when the woman had children, the snake would bite at the child’s foot. And he punished the snake as well, saying that when the woman walked, she would not see it, and she would tread on its head and crush it flat.
