Gluskα̨Be´ Becomes Angry With The Birch Tree And Marks It For Life
Here is my story, and here is Gluskabe as well.
He had been wandering along the ocean, and then he set off in his canoe. In time he wore it out, and he began to think. “For a while,” he said to himself, “I will build another.”
So he went looking for a birch tree, and he found one that was straight. He cut it down, and when it fell it nearly came down on top of him, only just missing him. He managed to jump clear, and afterwards he thought, “Never again. You will not kill anyone.”
He took a branch from that birch and struck the tree along its whole length. And from then on, for as long as people live upon the earth, the birch has carried its marks, and is known by them.
And there ends my story.
